What is ENERGY STAR?
ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the US Environment Protection Agency (EPA)
and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) helping us all save money and
protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices. |

Earning the ENERGY STAR
Quality is built into ENERGY STAR guidelines set by the US Environmental
Protection Agency to give the assurance of bright, warm, long lasting
lighting. ENERGY STAR qualified lighting fixtures meet strict EPA criteria for
efficacy, color rendition and color temperature. Fixtures that have earned
the ENERGY STAR are also flicker free, emit no hum, start instantly and,
come with a two year warranty,which is double the industry standard. |

The Environment & ENERGY STAR
The ENERGY STAR program promotes the use of less energy through 40
different product categories. By reducing the use of energy, your local
utility company burns less fossil fuel which results in less pollution. If one room in every U.S. household was brightened by ENERGY STAR
qualified lighting, the annual pollution savings would be equivalent to
removing more than 8 million cars from the road. |

Savings
ENERGY STAR qualified CFLs use 66% less energy than a standard
incandescent bulb and last up to 10 times longer. Replacing a
100–watt incandescent with a 32–watt CFL can save you at least
$30 in energy cost over the lifetime of the bulb. Homeowners can save an estimated $60 per year by changing the most frequently
used light fixtures in their home with fixtures that have earned the ENERGY STAR label. |

ENERGY STAR Lighting
ENERGY STAR lighting gives families a choice to save about one third on their
energy bill without sacrificing style or fashion. ENERGY STAR qualified fixtures
generally use pin-based light bulbs which are tested to last for 10,000 hours.
These fixtures typically burn at less than 100º Fahrenheit. Halogen torchieres can
reach up to 1000º Fahrenheit and are potential fire hazards. Approximately
90% of the energy used by an incandescent light bulb is expanded by heat,
which means 10% of the electricity used is converted into light. |
ENERGY STAR qualified lighting uses less energy, helps protect the environment, provides equivalent
light output, is cooler to the touch and no longer sacrifices style. |

How important is your lighting?

Less time on the ladder
High–efficiency ENERGY STAR qualified lighting only needs to be changed every 7 years on average,
compared with the annual ladder climb for standard light bulbs. This means less trouble in changing
the bulbs in those hard to reach fixtures.
A better choice
If every American home changed out just 5 high–use light fixtures or the bulbs in them with ones that have
earned ENERGY STAR, each family would save more than $60 every year on energy costs, and together we'd
keep more than one trillion pounds of greenhouse gases out of the air equal to the emission of 8 million cars.
That’s a $6 billion energy saving for Americans, equivalent to the output of more than 21 power plants.

Guide to CFL wattage
If you are unfamiliar with the best CFL wattage to use for your lighting
needs, always refer to the lumen, or light output on the product
packaging as your guide. For example,most 60–watt incandescents
provide 800 lumens or more.
